Sketchbook: Dragon Tattoo Concept

When I do commissions, friends and clients frequently say things like "I want a dragon." Sometimes they give me specifics, like "a bipedal dragon with a heavy gold necklace and a thorny staff," but more often than not, I'm left to ponder the details myself. Concept art is my playtime, where I can really stretch my pencils and my brain.
I come up with 3 or 4 ideas for every project, discarding all but one in the end. I drew this for my friend's dragon tattoo, before he told me he wanted an Asian dragon. So it may not have made the final cut, but I love the sketch and I'm sure I'll have the opportunity to use it somewhere.
