Sketchbook: The Underworld Fisherman
Pencil on paper
What I love about drawing, what makes it first in my heart before all other forms of artistic expression, is that it's so easy. Easy to get into, that is, not creating the actual art! I've enjoyed other media like photography, painting, ceramics, sculpture - but all of them require some preparation and setup of materials before you can really start creating. All you need to draw is a surface and something that makes a mark.
While sitting in a coffee shop listening to a folk singer, I started sketching this little Gollum-like creature. I suppose if I were an ordinary person, a sewer would be just a dark, smelly warren of slimy bricks and fetid water. But I'm an artist, so sewers are places of mystery and dark wonder, with mysterious denizens going about their lives.
