Sketchbook: The Character of My Character

In my humble opinion, role-playing is the best hobby in the entire world. All you need is an imagination and a friend, and you can have the adventure of your life. Most people understand that when they're young and forget it when they get older.

You know how you can get really caught up in a great book or movie? Role-playing games are like that, except you're the hero of a story you're creating, not just an observer in someone else's. That's how I try to explain it to non-gamers, but most people can't really grasp how it works until they play.

I've always wanted to do a story that conveyed just how incredible RPGs - and the friendships you build with your fellow gamers - can be. Before she finds herself in the twisted world of Castle Whatsitsname, Alyssa (left) had her own fantasy world, the one seen in A World Within A World. She and her best friend Kelly (right) played a pirate and an exiled princess, respectively, having all sorts of daring adventures. If you're a gamer, I'm sure you can imagine it. And if not, you'll just have to read the comic!
